Background: Braddan Structures Limited, trading as Braddan Structures, is an industry leader and innovator in steel construction. The company provides a wide range of steel construction services, which include complicated glazing roof supports, column and beam office developments, portal frames, pre-cast concrete installations for grain stores, retaining walls, stairs, and hollow core flooring. The company sought to improve energy efficiency and reduce energy costs and thus participated in the SME Energy Efficiency Scheme (SMEES), a project to support small and medium-sized enterprises in implementing energy-saving measures. The European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) supported the project as part of the European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme.
Decerna undertook an energy efficiency audit of the SME’s building. An essential part was investigating issues with their existing solar photovoltaic (PV) system. Decerna worked with the client to support on the process to engage professionals to diagnose and rectify the faults in the PV system.
Outcomes: The fault rectification of the solar PV system resulted in the following outcomes for Braddan Structures Limited:
- Annual Cost Savings: The project led to annual cost savings of £1,358 for the company through improved solar energy generation and reduced reliance on grid electricity.
- Carbon Emissions Reduction: The rectified solar PV system reduced approximately 3.7 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2e) emissions annually.
Conclusion: Braddan Structures Limited successfully rectified the faults in their solar PV system, resulting in improved energy generation and cost savings. The project underlines the company’s commitment to sustainable practices and showcases the benefits of maintaining and optimising solar PV systems.
